Rep. Bohnak to host local office hours

State Rep. Karl Bohnak, R-Deerton, will soon host local office hours in Marquette and L’Anse.

The meetings will take place at the following times and locations:

Friday, February 21

Big Boy Restaurant, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. EST, 1950 US-41 W. in Marquette

Saturday, February 22

Silver River Bakery, 1 to 2 p.m. EST, 15740 Jack O’Lantern Road in L’Anse

No appointments are necessary to attend office hours. Those who are unable to attend but would still like to share their thoughts with the representative may call his Lansing office at (517) 373-0498 or email [email protected].

Rep. Karl Bohnak was first elected to the state House of Representatives in November 2024. He serves the 109th House District, which includes the counties of Alger, Baraga, Marquette, and portions of Dickinson including the townships of Breen, Felch, Norway, Waucedah, and West Branch as well as the cities of Ishpeming, Marquette, Munising, Negaunee, and Norway.

“Ensuring the long-term stability of our RICE generators is critical to protecting our baseload energy supply in the U.P.,” Bohnak said. “I’m hopeful that my colleagues in the House will prioritize the passage of my plan so U.P. residents can breathe a sigh of relief knowing the heat won’t all of sudden fail when things get really cold.”

“Everything happening in state government has a cost. No one’s questioning that the roads need to be fixed,” said Bohnak, a member of the House Transportation Committee. “My colleagues and I have proven that we can fix our roads without raising taxes. If we have to choose between doling out huge sums of money to large corporations and asking hard-working families to cut their grocery budgets, the answer is clear and it doesn’t require forcing people to choose between milk and eggs.”

“Rural schools in the U.P. and across Michigan face unique hurdles when trying to offer CTE courses,” Bohnak said. “The funding we’re trying to secure would help districts who come across these roadblocks access the funding they need to overcome them. The goal is to connect students to programs that will lead them to future trades jobs, ultimately reversing the labor shortages we face today.”

“Families are doing all the right things to stay afloat – they pay their taxes, get their kids to school, hold down jobs, keep up the house, and everything else life entails, but that hard work just isn’t always enough anymore,” said Bohnak, R-Deerton. “The harmful cocktail of inflationary conditions and failures by government have created a situation where families can never catch up, let alone manage in times of financial strain. This plan provides a critical reprieve to our most vulnerable residents.”
