LANSING, Mich. — State Rep. Jaime Greene today voted to support a bipartisan resolution calling on Congress and the President to immediately end the federal government shutdown and pass a clean continuing resolution to fund essential services.
Senate Concurrent Resolution 7, adopted by both chambers of the Michigan Legislature, urges federal lawmakers to resolve the stalemate that has left federal employees, service members, and contractors working without pay while critical programs remain at risk.
Greene, R-Richmond, said the shutdown’s effects are being felt deeply in Michigan communities, especially around Selfridge Air National Guard Base and the Detroit Arsenal in Warren.
“These bases are pillars of both our national defense and our local economy,” Greene said. “They are communities of men and women who fly the missions, maintain the aircraft, and build the machines of freedom that protect our nation and our allies. Many of them are now working without pay or facing stalled production — and that’s not right.”
SCR 7 emphasizes that continued inaction in Washington has caused widespread financial hardship for families, delayed agricultural and infrastructure support, and created uncertainty in local economies dependent on federal operations.
“This is not just a political stalemate — it’s a human crisis,” Greene said. “We can debate policy and priorities, but we must never hold hardworking Americans hostage to gridlock. It’s time to end this shutdown, restore stability, and show the people who serve our country that we have their backs.”
The Michigan Legislature’s resolution will be transmitted to the President of the United States, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, and Michigan’s congressional delegation.
