Rep Jack O'Malley
Rep. O’Malley slotted for five House Committees in 2021-22 legislative term
RELEASE|January 22, 2021

State Rep. Jack O’Malley has been appointed House Transportation Chair by Speaker Jason Wentworth – and the second term legislator will serve on four other House committees in the 2021-22 legislative term.

“I will definitely be on the go, but with term limits my time is short and I want to work hard and get things done for people in Northern Michigan,” O’Malley said. “I came here to work.”

O’Malley also served as House Transportation Chair in the previous term, holding hearings and generating meaningful discussion on how to better Michigan’s roadways. As part of this role, he formulated several common-sense reforms emphasizing more resources and less burdensome regulation for repairing local roads, while helping to move them along the legislative road to the governor’s desk.

“We still have a lot of work to do,” said O’Malley, of Lake Ann. “When I first was appointed chair last term, I really had to do my homework on Michigan’s roads and speak with a lot of people both at the local and state level to get a full grasp of what we were dealing with and how we could go about fixing it. Going into this term, that knowledge will allow me to hit the ground running and pursue plans that are going to give people a better product beneath their wheels.”

O’Malley was also appointed to House Committees on Education, Financial Services, Oversight and Tax Policy.

O’Malley will bring experience into the Oversight Committee, having recently served on the Joint Select Committee on the COVID-19 Pandemic – a bipartisan panel of House and Senate legislators tasked with examining the response of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and her administration to COVID-19.

“Making sure state government is working effectively and efficiently for the people is extremely important – and oversight is a crucial component of government,” O’Malley said. “I’m looking forward to getting to work in each of these five committees and exploring meaningful reforms that will help our state be a better place to live and work.”
