Plan would extend tuition assistance program

State Rep. Mark Tisdel and the Michigan House of Representatives on Wednesday approved a plan to provide additional support to Michigan National Guard members by allowing family members to receive tuition assistance.

House Bill 4199 would authorize the National Guard to extend its tuition assistance program for Guard members to include spouses, as well as dependents under 26 years old.

“Michigan must do we all we can to support the brave, self-sacrificing Michiganders who serve in our National Guard,” said Tisdel, R-Rochester Hills. “Their families make sacrifices, too, as Guard members devote time to training, community service, and even overseas deployment. This plan will support our Michigan National Guard families by providing spouses and children assistance to further their education.”

The bill passed the House with bipartisan support and now advances to the Senate for consideration.
