State Rep. Mike Hoadley this week attended a leadership conference at the White House where he met with officials in the Trump Administration to discuss efforts to promote election integrity at the state and national level.
“It was an honor to meet with high-ranking members at the White House,” said Hoadley, R-Au Gres. “I was able to use this opportunity to bring the concerns of Michigan voters right to Washington. We discussed the importance of election integrity, and we talked about the ways in which the state and federal government can work together to make sure that our elections are conducted without foreign interference.”
During the trip, Hoadley met with Cabinet-level officials within the Trump Administration to discuss important issues facing Michigan and the nation. He attended meetings with leaders like Administrator of the Small Business Administration Kelly Loeffler and United States Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.
Hoadley demonstrated his support for the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE) Act, which is currently being considered by congress. The act would require citizens to provide proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote and to present photo identification to cast a ballot in federal elections. The Michigan House of Representatives recently adopted a resolution encouraging Congress to pass the SAVE Act.
“This issue should not be controversial,” Hoadley said. “The people I represent want secure elections. In Michigan, I recently voted to stop the foreign funding of ballot initiatives in our state. We should all be in favor of protecting the integrity of our elections here in the United States. It really is a matter of common sense. Only verified U.S. citizens should be allowed to cast a ballot.”
